STORY & ART

Boonah photographer Peter Van Der Veen

Peter Van Der Veen is known as the cycling photographer in his hometown of Boonah, in the beautiful Scenic Rim in Queensland.

Peter was born in the Netherlands and has lived in Australia since 1969.  Having been born in the Netherlands the bicycle was a natural way of life for him. Peter has come to love and appreciate the camera later in life and enjoys experimenting with it.  Peter can be seen regularly cycling around Boonah looking for his next perfect photo opportunity.

Photography is Peter’s way to capture the beauty of nature. Peter regards trees as one of nature’s most important symbols of life.  He believes that nature is to be preserved by everyone of us.

Peter has won awards with his photography. In 2019 he was highly commended in the Ritchies Boonah Arts Festival and in 2020 he won first prize in the same festival’s Art Awards.

In 2021 he held a successful 4 week exhibition together with sculptor Peter Holmes called “Lens & Hands” at the Boonah Regional Art Gallery which was very well attended.

All Peter’s photos have been taken by either his IPhone or his hand-held Lumix and no photo has been digitally enhanced.
